PLUMgrid Raises $ 10.7 Million For An Ambitious And Futuristic Project
PLUMgrid, a ventor of network infrastructure software, that sells solutions for network virtualization, secured $ 10.7 million in Series A funding recently. The investor were Hummer Winblad and US Venture Partners.
The investment will help the successful company to further build an operation system serving networks to the degree that the x86 processor represents the base for the compute power that is used in our day to day lives in order to run applications.
Lately, many funds were offered to different companies that went round this idea, this being considered to be the future.
The company has found out that with this a new type of clients’ needs is met, being aware that there is a new industry emerging, for example Facebook customers who chose to build their own infrastructure.
Founders of PLUMgrid aspire to provide SDN delivered as a software instead of the standard silicone, like x86 chip. The SDN designed by PLUMgrid will serve as platform for networking that encompasses the virtualization principles. This is a great thing because it means that any person could create his own networking boxes and not depend on companies that offer hardware.
The founders aspire to make PLUMgrid the company that is the meeting point of compute, networking and virtualization and the market will bring them up to $ 40 billion.
